How to Reset Lost Password of Kali Linux?

Have you locked yourself out of Kali Linux because you forgot the logon password at startup?Well, this guide will tell you how to reset it.

How to Reset lost Password of Kali Linux? The Linux based Operating System and Swiss army knife’s of hackers which mostly used for penetration testing nowadays. This article maybe important for penetration tester or those who are using Kali Linux for daily activity.

In this post I will simply show you how to reset forgotten password of Kali Linux and hope it help you reset it as easily as I explained.



Step 1. Boot your Kali system and let the GNU Grub page will appear.

Now select the recovery mode by down arrow key and don’t press enter instate press E key.

So you must see the recovery page by pressing E key.

Step 2. To modify it just change read only mode (ro) to rw (write mode) and add init=/bin/bash like below screen  then press F10  for rebooting the system.

The system will reboot and let the Kali bring you the bellow screen in order to change the root Password.

To change the root password only type passwd root and hit enter then type the new password twice. After successfully changing the password, you will see the succeed message. Well reboot the system and log in with newly changed password of root user.
